Honorary Consuls Visit Liechtenstein

In June Liechtenstein's Honorary Consuls convened in the Principality as part of an ongoing initiative to keep them updated on current affairs in the country. Taking place every two years, the group included all four Honorary Consuls from the US as well as those from Germany and Singapore. They were accompanied by Ambassador Claudia Fritsche, then Liechtenstein's Ambassador to the US, and H.S.H. Prince Stefan of Liechtenstein, Liechtenstein's Ambassador to Germany.

Liechtenstein's network of Honorary Consulates allows it to expand its engagement in their respective countries. Liechtenstein's four Honorary Consuls in the US cover regions, namely the South/Southeastern, Midwestern, Western/Southwestern and Northern New England regions of the US. As Americans who are deeply connected to their communities and regions they serve to promote Liechtenstein's interests while developing projects and programs for Liechtenstein to deepen relationships across the US.

The visit to Liechtenstein entailed political, foreign policy, environmental and economic briefings as well as cultural outings. On the topic of humanitarian affairs the Honorary Consuls learned more about how Liechtenstein is engaging in the area of European migration. They visited the New Learning Association which works with migrants who have been placed in Liechtenstein to learn German. Using innovative methods to quickly learn the fundamentals of the language, migrants are better able to obtain jobs and interact within their new community.

The Honorary Consuls visited historical sights and were exposed to Liechtenstein industrial sector with a visit to the Liechtenstein drill and toolmaker Hilti. The visit was capped off with a visit to Vaduz Castle to meet with H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein.
