Prime Minister Brigitte Haas led the Liechtenstein delegation at the IMF Spring Meetings April 24-25 in Washington D.C, where member countries from all around the world gathered to discuss the state of the world economy. The Prime Minister met with Heads of State and Government and finance ministers, as well as IMF leadership to discuss a wide range of political issues, including current geopolitical and economic challenges.

Prime Minister Haas was welcomed by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva as Liechtenstein’s new Governor to the IMF and she attended various meetings in the Fund to discuss current trade tensions and related risks and opportunities for a small and open economy like Liechtenstein’s.

Prime Minister Haas held numerous bilateral talks with Liechtenstein's close partners. In the meeting with Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter and Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin, the neighbors emphasized the very close and friendly relations between both countries.

The IMF has an Executive Board with 25 members conducting the day-to-day business of the Fund. Switzerland heads a group of countries, a so-called constituency, that speak with one voice in the Executive Board. The Swiss constituency consists of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Liechtenstein, Poland, Serbia, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, and is currently represented the by Executive Director Patryk Loszewski of Poland. During the Spring Meetings, the constituency warmly welcomed Liechtenstein as the newest, tenth member of the group.

In a bilateral meeting, Prime Minister Haas assured Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, of Liechtenstein’s ongoing support to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people as well as a for a just and sustainable peace, as the two Prime Ministers spoke about the ongoing Russian war of aggression and its impact on the Ukrainian population, its economy and on security throughout Europe.

Prime Minister Haas also held talks with the finance ministers of Andorra, Iceland, Luxembourg and Poland, as well as with the Swiss National Bank, on matters concerning the IMF and current financial and economic issues.
