EFTA and USTR Establish Exploratory Dialogue on Trade and Investment

On July 19 ambassadors representing the four Member States of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) met with Dan Mullaney, Assistant United States Trade Representative (USTR) for Europe and the Middle East, to establish a dialogue with the EFTA Member States of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, which will focus on discussions to bolster trade and investment with the US.As part of the dialogue, the USTR will update EFTA on the general progress of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) between the US and the European Union. TTIP could lead to profound growth in transatlantic commerce with the potential of the US and EU reducing many barriers to trade. Given their location within Europe as well as their high level of integration within the EU Single Market, EFTA Member States are following the TTIP negotiations with great interest as many of their industries play important roles in the transatlantic economy as well as the supply chain of good and services with Europe and the US.
