Liechtenstein Alpine Ski Racer Tina Weirather Becomes UNICEF Ambassador

Liechtenstein Olympian and World Cup winner Tina Weirather has become the first female ski racer in history to become a UNICEF ambassador. In January 2019 she was appointed UNICEF ambassador by UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein. She is also the first spokesperson from Liechtenstein and the first female ambassador for UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

In an interview with the Liechtenstein newspaper “Volksblatt” Weirather said that she sees her new position as a great honor and an important responsibility. She underlined her goal to raise attention for children in need all around the world.

Weirather is currently the most successful ski racer from Liechtenstein. The 29-year-old focuses on the disciplines of downhill, super-G, and giant slalom. In her main discipline, super-G, she won the World Championship in 2017 and 2018 and received a bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics. She has secured further podium positions in downhill and giant slalom. Weirather has been voted Female Sportsperson of the Year in Liechtenstein eight times.
